LISTS & IMPORTS

Bring your list. We'll sort the rest.

Upload any spreadsheet and Mailer Moose maps every column to a field, reuses the ones you already have, and picks up right where an interrupted upload left off. No mystery totals, no duplicate fields, no guessing who's safe to email.

  • Any spreadsheet accepted

  • Fields reused, never duplicated

  • Every address checked before you send

THE SPREADSHEET SHUFFLE

Why your list never looks right after moving it

You've got a spreadsheet. Maybe it's from your old email tool, maybe it's years of business cards typed in after closing up shop. Either way, the moment you upload it somewhere new, something goes sideways.

Headers don't match. 'Email' becomes 'Email Address' becomes 'email_1', and suddenly you've got three fields holding the same thing. Half the upload fails partway through, so you run it again and now some people are in twice. By the end nobody can say why the list total doesn't match the spreadsheet you started with.

That's the part that actually matters: not the import itself, but trusting the number you land on. If you can't trust the count, you can't trust who's getting your next campaign — and who definitely shouldn't.

THE IMPORT, STEP BY STEP

From spreadsheet to send-ready list

Four steps, same spreadsheet you already have sitting open.

Upload your file

Drop in a CSV or spreadsheet export from wherever your list lives now — an old platform, a point-of-sale system, or a folder of sign-up cards you finally typed up.

Match the columns

Every column gets mapped to a field. Columns that match a field you already have are reused, not duplicated, so 'First Name' never turns into a second, emptier 'First Name'.

Let it finish, even if you don't

If the upload stalls or your wifi drops, it resumes exactly where it stopped. No restarting from row one.

Send with confidence

Every address is checked before it ever reaches a campaign, and anyone who's bounced or complained anywhere on the platform is already excluded.

IN DETAIL

Every column finds its place

Three things that make an import actually usable afterward.

MAPPING

Any spreadsheet, mapped for you

However your spreadsheet is laid out, the importer reads every column and proposes a match: your 'Email' column to the email field, 'Phone' to phone, and so on. Columns that match a field you already use are reused automatically.

That means a 'Birthday' column you imported eight months ago and a 'Birthday' column in this week's spreadsheet land in the exact same field. No second column with a near-identical name, no wondering which one is current.

  • Every column proposed a match

  • Existing fields reused automatically

  • New columns become new fields, not duplicates

THE RECORD

One record, the whole story

Open any subscriber and you see everything in one place: their fields, every campaign they've received, and what they did with each one — opened, clicked, neither.

Opens are split too: the ones that look like a real person reading, and the ones that look like software checking the email automatically. So when you're deciding who to follow up with, you're working from what actually happened, not an inflated number.

  • Every campaign received, listed

  • Opens and clicks, per subscriber

  • Human opens told apart from automated

PERSONALIZATION

Your columns become merge fields

A custom field you imported — favourite order, membership type, last visit — doesn't just sit on the record. It shows up in the email editor as a merge field, ready to drop into a subject line or a sentence.

And once an address hard-bounces or complains, it's suppressed across the whole platform. Not just this list, not just this campaign — anywhere, forever, so nobody on your team sends to it again by accident.

  • Custom fields appear in the editor

  • Drop a field into any subject or line

  • Bounces and complaints suppressed platform-wide

WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU

A list you can actually trust

Importing isn't the finish line. Knowing who's on your list — and who isn't safe to send to — is.

Move your list in one sitting

Bring years of spreadsheets, old platform exports or sign-up cards across in one upload, mapped to fields that already make sense.

Know who's safe to email

Addresses that bounce or complain are suppressed everywhere on the platform, so a bad address from one list can't trip up another.

Turn columns into personal touches

A custom field from your spreadsheet shows up as a merge field in the editor, ready to use in your next subject line.

See the real story behind every number

Every subscriber's record shows what they received, what they opened, and whether that open looks human or automated.

Never start an upload twice

An interrupted import resumes where it stopped, so a dropped connection doesn't mean re-mapping the whole file again.

COMPARED

What a list looks like, done right

A typical platform

  • A fresh 'Email 2' field for every import.
  • One big stall and you start the whole upload over.
  • A list total nobody can explain.
  • A bounced address that keeps getting sent to on other lists.
  • Custom columns that just sit there.

Mailer Moose

  • Reused, not duplicated. Matching columns land in the field you already have.
  • Picks up where it stopped. An interrupted import resumes, not restarts.
  • A record for every row. See exactly what came in and where it landed.
  • Suppressed everywhere. One bounce or complaint, excluded platform-wide.
  • Become merge fields. Use them in your very next campaign.

QUESTIONS

Importing, answered

Can I bring my existing list?

Yes. Upload a spreadsheet, map the columns, and every address is checked before you send to it.

What happens to the columns in my spreadsheet?

Each one gets mapped to a field: your 'Email' column to the email field, 'Phone' to phone, and so on. You see the proposed match before anything imports.

Will importing create duplicate fields if I've imported before?

No. Columns that match a field you already use are reused automatically, so you don't end up with a second 'Birthday' or 'First Name' field.

My upload cut out halfway, do I start over?

No. An interrupted upload resumes exactly where it stopped, so you're not re-mapping the whole file again.

Can I use my spreadsheet data in the emails themselves?

Yes. Any custom field becomes a merge field in the email editor, so a column like 'Favourite Order' can drop straight into your next subject line.

What happens if an imported address bounces or complains?

It's suppressed across the whole platform, not just the list it came in on. Nobody on your account sends to it again.

Can I see what a particular subscriber has done?

Yes. Every subscriber's record shows their fields, the campaigns they've received, and what they opened or clicked, with human opens told apart from automated ones.

Do I need consent to import contacts?

Canadian anti-spam law (CASL) applies regardless of how a contact landed on your list, so you need express or implied consent and clear sender identification, and you must honour an unsubscribe within 10 business days. An import doesn't change any of that.

WORKS WITH

What your list does next

An import is the start. Here's where that list goes to work.

Segments and follow-ups

Once your list is in, save the people who clicked, the people who opened without clicking, or the people who didn't open at all — straight from any campaign you've sent.

Resend to the ones who missed it with a new subject line.

Every address checked

Each address is verified at the mailbox before it ever reaches a campaign, so dead addresses never make it into a send.

Honest reporting

Every open is counted as human or automated, separately, so the numbers behind your imported list mean something real.

One simple credit pool

Address checks and sends draw from the same pool, so bringing in a big list and checking it both use one number to watch.
